USS Epperson In Vietnam
Anti-Aircraft Common (AAC) rounds outside the upper handling room.
Fuze caps have been removed from all except the two in the foreground.
Bringing ammunition up from the magazine in advance of a Naval Gunfire
Support (NGFS) mission was easier on the crew but could only be done
in situations where hostile fire was unlikely. AAC was often used against
personnel.

During the Tet Offensive, USS Epperson provided support fire for the
3rd Marine in Quang Tri Province. The intense pace of missions meant
it was difficult to keep the ships fully supplied with ammunition. When
this destroyer ran out of flashless powder, she continued to fire with what
she had available. (Photo by Tom Peltin.)
During a day mission, the after mount fires to port. Fire rings and
smoke rings sometimes occurred. (Probably Official USN.)
