Ahoy Chief Stephens,
I just heard from Chief McLuckie about the web site and association. I have occasionaly searched for information on the "P" and assorted shipmates. Here is some profile information to include in the web site:
I boarded the Parsons in San Diego in Sept. of 1971, just before the change of homeport to Yokosuka, Japan. I served as an electronics technician (ETR-3) and was transferred in January of 1974. The Parsons was my first fleet assignment following Class "A" school in Great Lakes, Il. I stayed in the Navy a total of eight years. My second enlistment was spent ashore in Corpus Christi, TX (NAS) and aboard the USS Dixon, AS-37, back in San Diego.
After I left the Navy, I went to college, joined the army national guard and was commisioned as a second lieutenent in July of 1982. I am presently a major, but hope to retire as a lieutenent colonel in a few years. Even though I have a lot of years in an army environment, my heart is still with the sea services.
I work as a Senior Quality Engineer for a subcontractor to the U. S. Department of Energy. My work is focused on management and disposal of hazardous and radiologically contaminated waste.
I have been married to the same woman (Gail) for 26 years and we have an eighteen year old daughter (Virginia) and a sixteen year old son (Kevin). I have a 1980 MGB roadster, as well as a 1979 Triumph Bonneyville motorcycle that I have been fixing up. I was also working on a 1968 Mustang hardtop, but even though I am an amateur juggler, I couldn't keep that many projects in the air simultaneously. I kick myself for selling it every time I see it go by in traffic.
