Fresh out of OCS in Nov of 1967 I found her newly
refitted as a
missile destroyer. I was assigned as asst. CIC Officer under Captain
Robert Morris. We passed our sea trials and took our station at San
Diego. That first year was great, north to San Francisco, and Tacoma,
and then south to Acapulco.
Left for Yankee Station in early fall of 1968 visited many
ports
including a cross of the equator. Went to Korea in the very early
spring of 1969 after a plane was shot down. Even sailed with the USS
New Jersey.
Returned home in the late spring of 1969. That summer
we trained
midshipmen from Annapolis and visited Hawaii, again. I left the ship in
January of 1970 to reserve and civilian life as a teacher.
Aboard Parsons I served as Comm Officer and CIC officer.
Include a
stint with the cruise book.
Thanks
