Poet's Corner

Is It You?

Bare skin weathered by the sweltering sun
Chafed from the brutal winds that blow in from sea
The repetitive motion awakens the familiar qualm
Dropping anchor of the morning's petit dejeuner
Each day's journey etched into internal storage
Paper would only be dampened by rushing waters
Haunting eyes piercing
Eyes that are remarkably familiar
Is it you, Daddy?
My heart says yes.

This poem was written after I saw the first photograph ever of my dad's service in the navy during WW II. I had seen pictures of the ship, other crewmen but never before had I viewed a picture of my dad during his service. I was reluctant to believe it was him at first just because I didn't want to be disappointed.
