Poet's Corner

Navy  Reunion

by  Glen Radder
USS  Laffey (DD-724)

Reunions are great

I’ve been to quite a few
And this little poem

Shows my point of view

Our heroes who went before us

On that remembered day

Are always gratefully treated

In a very special way

As the bell tolls

While their names are read

We think of them still with us

Just going on ahead

So we give them our prayers

And undying devotion

For their final sacrifice

On a far away ocean

But reunions are like birthdays

They come once a year

And should also be filled

With goodwill and cheer

For those shipmates of ours
Who take on this chore

Do a helluva job

No one could ask them for more

As the years go by

This means more and more

With the banquets and golfing

They still can yell “fore”

These are my thoughts

As each reunion draws near

Well what do you know
There goes another year!
