Poet's Corner

Steaming For Home

By Bob Lee
BT2
USS MacDonough DLG8/DDG39

The sea is calm tonight, my watch is over,
and all is right

Most of the crew is fast asleep, assured the men
on watch, our safety they will keep.

We are headed home, no time to spare.  Our
loved ones are waiting to greet us when we
finally get there.

Our mission is complete, and we are no
worse for the wear.
We are going home – nothing
can compare

We journeyed so far, so far did we roam.
Visiting many ports, but none
like home.

We are Sailors tried and true.
Sailors of the greatest Navy,
sailing under the red, white,
and blue.

But we are going home now.
No time to waste.
Every Sailor onboard longs
for the kiss, of a loved one to taste.
