Poet's Corner

Waterline

By: Thomas M. McDade

One Saturday

I found myself

in the punt

painting

waterline.

It wasn’t

as bad as

working

off a stage

and better

than a camel

when a ship

made waves.

It was nice

to watch

the crabs

swim by

but not

those chute

fish sailors

like to joke

about.

My section

didn’t have

the duty

but the BM2

said if you’re

on board

you’re it.

Sometimes

liberty to him

was in with

that bucket

of waterline

so many

boots
never find.
