USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887)
Courtesy of William Daigle, USS Laub (DD-613)
Mystery Photo which appeared in the Tin Can Sailors
newspaper, July 2004--Vol. 28 No. 3. page 40.
It was identified by Bill Shea, SMC (Ret), USS Southerland (DD-743). Following
is his response.
"From the call sign NJDF partially visible in the photo I
was able (with the help of Google) to ID the ship as the USS Brinkley Bass
(DD-887). The damage was caused by a collision with the USS Wadell (DDG-24) in
the Gulf of Tonkin in 1966. The bow from the USS Tingey (DD-539) was used to
repair Brinkley Bass."
