USS SIMS (DD-409) Class Color Profiles

This release is represented by the USS Mustin (DD-409) as outfitted October 1943.

USS MUSTIN (DD-413), SIMS-CLASS destroyer. Displacement: 1,951 trial, 2,465 full load. Dimensions: 348'-4" overall, 36'-0" beam, 17'-9" max. draft. Machinery: 50,000 SHP, three B & W boilers @ 565 psi/750 deg. F, two Westinghouse geared turbines, two shafts/propellers, speed 37 knots, range 5,640 nautical miles at 12 knots, 3,660 nautical miles at 20 knots. Complement: 10 officer and 182 enlisted. Armament: four single 5-inch/38 caliber gun mounts, two twin 40mm gun mounts, four single 20mm gun mounts, two quadruple 21-inch torpedo tube mounts, two depth charge tracks (for 600 lb. charges), and four single K-gun depth charge projectors (for 300lb. charges). Fire Control: one MK 37 GFCS (for 5-inch battery), two MK 51 (for 40mm battery). Radar: one SC air search set and one SG surface search set. Sonar: one QC set.

Specifications for this configuration of the Sims Class were taken from Ships’ Data U.S. Naval Vessels, Vol. 1, April 1945. Because of weight and other as built problems various changes to individual units of the Sims Class were made to correct the problems. The Mustin was chosen because it is most representative of a typical wartime version.
