Ellet (DD-398), Benham-CLASS destroyer. Displacement: 1,766 tons
trial, 2,350 tons full load. Dimensions: 340'-9" overall, 35'-6"
beam, 17'-3" max. draft. Machinery: 50,000 SHP, three B & W boilers
@ 565 psi/700 deg. F, two Westinghouse geared turbines, two
shafts/propellers, trial speed 40.7 knots, range 9,500 nautical
miles at 15 knots/1,762 tons, 5,390 nautical miles at 20 knots.
Complement: 16 officers and 235 enlisted. Armament: four single
5-inch/38 caliber gun mounts, two twin 40mm gun mounts, four single
20mm gun mounts, two quadruple 21-inch torpedo tube mounts, two
depth charge tracks (for 600 lb. charges), and four single K-gun
depth charge projectors (for 300lb. charges). Fire Control: one MK
33 GFCS/MK 12 FC radar (for 5-inch battery), two MK 51 (for 40mm
battery), MK 27 TFCS. Radar: one SC air search set and one SG
surface search set. Sonar: one QCE set.
