The USS ORLECK (DD-886) may become a museum exhibit at North Little
Rock’s Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum (AIMM) which is currently home
to the submarine USS RAZORBACK. According to the current owner of the
ship, The Southeast Texas War Memorial and Heritage Foundation, the
transfer of the ship from Orange, Texas to North Little Rock is the
best alternative that would preserve the ship as an historic monument
to the destroyer navy. In order to make the trip up the Mississippi
and Arkansas Rivers it was necessary to remove the Sonar Dome and both
of the Orleck’s 12-foot diameter screws. The sonar dome would make a
great exhibit but the AIMM doesn’t have pier space for it so it is
available to a museum that has the space.
Towing the ship up two rivers isn’t without expense and the effort is
not fully funded. Donations of any amount will be appreciated and
anyone wishing to make a donation can contact the Southeast Texas War
Memorial and Heritage Foundation, Inc., which is a tax exempt
501(c)(3) organization with all donations tax deductible.
Please send donations to:

Heritage Foundation, Inc.

Also, if any museum group would like to have the sonar dome to display
as an exhibit, it is available in Orange, Texas for a donation to the
ORLECK relocation effort and can contact SETWM&HF attorney, Evan
Caffrey for details. Evan’s contact information is:
