Orlando "Big Ange" Angelini, MMC. Served on Mayo:18 September 1940- 18 March 1946 "Ange" was on the Mayo from the day she was commissioned to her decommissioning, never missing a trip or action aboard his home of 5 1/2 years. It is well known that Ange was the last man off the ship, caused by the mothballing of the Engineering spaces, and is regarded as the shipmate with the longest time served on Mayo.He went from Apprentice Seaman to Chief Machinist during his tenure. After serving on Mayo, Ange was sent aboard the USS Ault DD698 for about 6 weeks. "The best crew and ship in the USN was the Mayo DD422.", says Ange. Also, a photo of Louise and Ange is below showing them during the war. Louise and Ange are both very involved with all events related to the Mayo.
William P. Winkler, LT. Served on Mayo: Lt. Winkler was aboard Mayo as Chief Engineering Officer and was present at the surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay, Sept 2 1945.
Clifford Robbins, GM1/c. Served on Mayo:18 September 1940- 18 March 1946. Cliff was on the Mayo from the day she was commissioned to her decommissioning, never missing a trip or action.
Wayne Chewning, MM2/c. Served on Mayo:3 August 1944 to 18 September 1945. Wayne joined Mayo after her overhaul and was aboard during the Surrender of Japan. Here Wayne is seen with his wife.
Benjamin Algeri, WT1/c. Served on Mayo:26 January 1942 to 16 March 1946. Algeri served through all of Mayo's actions and the Surrender of Japan. Algeri was involved in the pre-decomm process of Mayo in 1946.
