"Jerry" Kelley and friend Bonnie Waite are avid attendees at our reunions, participate in the newsletter, and other correspondence with the Mayo group.

William D. Collius, S1/c.
Served on Mayo:3 August 1944 to 18 March 1946
William came aboard the Mayo Maru right after DD422 came out of overhaul in Brooklyn, NY ;following her damage sustained at Anzio, Italy. He and Mayo then proceeded to the Pacific where convoy and radar picket duty was common. Together they entered Tokyo Bay 2 Sept. 1945 for the Japanese surrender. William was one of the last crewmen off the Merry Mayo, as he was part of her decommissioning crew on 18 March, 1946

William "Quack" Quackenbush, BMkr2.
Served on Mayo:18 September 1940- 3 April 1943
"Quack" was a plankowner aboard the Merry Mayo and served on her throughout the early convoy experiences. He was transferred to the USS Fechteler and became a survivor of that DE's sinking. "Quack" later was a member of the crew of the destroyer Harlon Dickson.

Dr. Louis Lazar, Ship's Doctor.
Served on Mayo:1943-1945?
Dr. Lazar was a well liked and respected part of the crew of the Mighty Mayo. His duties included identifying body parts of crewmen killed in action at Anzio to giving out "medicinal" brandy during cold, wet North Atlantic cruises. The good health and fighting condition of Mayo's men is due in part to Doc Lazar.
