Reunion Information For USS Macomb DD-458/USS Doyle DD-494 Associations ![]() USS DOYLE/USS MACOMB 2000 REUNION The seventh annual USS Macomb Reunion was held jointly with the USS Doyle at the Best Western Midway Airport Hotel, Milwaukee, WI. In attendance were 64 shipmates, wives and guests from the Macomb and 49 shipmates, wives and guests from the Doyle for a total of 113. After check-in on Wednesday, May 17, everyone had a wonderful time renewing old friendships and looking over memorabilia in the Hospitality Room. On Thursday, May 18, we toured the city of Milwaukee with stops at the Great harvest Bread Co., Tripoli Shrine Temple, and Miller Brewing Company. Lunch was at the historic John Ernst German Restaurant. Friday, May 19, we visited "Holy Hill" the National Shrine of Mary, the German Glass & Gift Shop, and the Historic Village of Cedarburg for shopping and a tour of the oldest covered bridge in the State. Lunch was at the Alpine Village Restaurant. That evening we dined at the Old World Third Street Pier Restaurant. For Saturday, May 20, we had a special treat -- a cruise on the Milwaukee River in a pontoon boat! There was also shopping along Old World Third Street and lunch at Vecchio Mondo Restaurant. An emotional memorial service for departed shipmates was held at the Milwaukee War Memorial. Shipmates Joe Ferrara, USS Macomb, and Fred MacDonald, USS Doyle, made a wreath presentation in front of the reflecting pool and Celia Farran, our tour guide, sang "The Green Fields of France." We arrived back at the hotel just in time for a shipmates meeting. It was agreed by all to continue the combined reunions and then we voted to have the next reunion in Jacksonville, FL. Fred Greenley resigned as the Macomb Reunion Association President. He nominated me to replace him and I was elected. At our banquet that evening we began with an Honor Guard from the local Air Force Reserve unit posting the colors. The young men in uniform made us all proud. After the invocation we proceeded with dinner and dancing. Fun was had by everyone but all good things must end and farewells were said until next year.
