I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Ainsworth's book. The story line works very well. The characters are real. Several reminded me of former shipmates. The events will stir the memory of every destroyer sailor who ever lived. If you have experienced the transformation from Polly Wog to Shell Back, you will relive every single aspect of that one-of-a-kind ceremony. if you felt the power of great storms, no matter the location, you will feel the salt spray and the roll of the ship. If you have sat on the O-4 deck on a clear night and wondered at the heavens, you will see that sight in your mind's eye once more.
