Poet's Corner

Requiem For A Seaman

By: Glen V. Ruff
USS Norris (
DD/DDE-859)

Under the flag a body lies, snug in a canvas shroud
The crew at attention stands rigid and proud
The Captain's voice is solemn as the eulogy is read
A final benediction for the honored dead
A smart salute, rifels' fire report,
The sound of "Taps" touches every heart
From under the flag, the fallen is let free
To be embraced by the waiting sea
Gracefully it sinks beneath the wave
A fitting place for a sailor's grave
Sojourn done, the sould is "Homeward Bound"
To Paradise where "Angels of Mercy are found"
