Deck Log Remarks, 15 September 1952
By: Lt. P.F.
Armstrong
USS Floyd B. Parks (DD-884)
Twas an unpleasant day on Korea's east shore
And we steam for Japan steering one-forty-four.
We've been to Wonsan on northern patrol,
But it's south for us now where warm waters roll.
The speed that we make comes from 2 and 3 boilers.
Split plant operation in terms of the oilers.
Eleven point two is the best we can make
For both screws were bent in yesterday's wake.
Baker is set in all spaces below
And flooding in hand, though progress is slow.
As one o'clock sounded we came to the right
To course 215 for the rest of the night.
We changed speed to nine as two o'clock went
To arrive 0800, our latest intent.
We found more speed needed at zero-three-twenty
So we gave half a knot which proved to be plenty.
ComDesDiv One is S-O-P-A.
Yokosuka is nex in Tokyo Bay.
As cold winds blow and swril 'round here,
The watch looks forward to pretzels and beer.
