Tailor Mades
By: Thomas M. McDade
USS Mullinnix (DD-944)
USS Miller (DE/FF-1091)
Mine were
garbardines
I charged at Kelly’s
Men’s Shop
on Granby
Street.
There was
a zipper
up one side
of the jumper
and liberty
cuffs that
weren’t as
fancy as some.
No dragons
just a few
wavy
colorful
lines.
A silk
lining I think
the salesman
said.
God, they felt
good and made
my boot camp
issue forever
obsolete.
And if Kelly’s
had offered seaman
deuce stripes
that glowed
in the dark
I would have
charged some
of them too.
