USS Forrest Sherman
(DD-931)-Class
Three groups of the USS Forrest Sherman
(DD-931)-class destroyers showing their armament, radar and sonar alterations
of the late 1950s. The following equipment is shown: Guns - three single
5-in./54 cal. MK 42 gun mounts (two 5-in./54 cal. MK 42 and one single 8-in./55
cal. MK 71 MCLW gun mounts for DD-945), one twin 3-in./50 cal. MK 27/33 gun
mount (none for DD-945), two triple MK 32 torpedo tube mounts, and two MK 10/11
ASW projectors (hedgehog). Fire Control - one MK 68 GFCS and one MK 56 GFCS.
Radar - SPS-29/37 or SPS-40 air search set (see Group Lists below) and SPS-10
surface/navigational set. Sonar - SQS-4 (SQS-23 bow mounted for DD-933) sets.
Distinctive features: Group A - low forecastle, MK 56 GFCS forward and MK 68
GFCS aft. Group B - higher forecastle, otherwise as Group A, Group C - higher
forecastle with MK 68 GFCS forward and MK 56 GFCS aft.
A future release will
include configurations for AAW missile conversions and ASW
antisubmarine conversions.
