| The Engineering Department is responsible, under the commanding officer, for the operation, care, and maintenance of the ship's main propulsion plant, auxiliary machinery and piping system, and electric power generators and distribution system; the control of damage; repairs to the ship's hull; and repairs to material and equipment of other departments when such repairs are beyond the capacity of such other departments, but within the capacity of the engineering department. | |
