Room and hotel descriptions:
Elmwood Resort Hotel features one-bedroom (ground level) suites and two-bedroom townhouses (one bedroom and full bath upstairs; one bedroom and 1/2 bath downstairs). All suites have fully equipped kitchens, separate bedroom(s), private bath(s), living room, cable TV, VCR/DVD player, and air conditioning.

No elevators available. If you have trouble with stairs, ask for a ground-floor (one-bedroom) suite; only one of these suites has a handicap-accessible bathroom. Reserve early!

(The Saturday night Banquet room, at the adjacent Village by the Sea Resort, is handicap accessible.)

Other amenities at the Elmwood resort include free wireless Internet, outdoor pool, indoor heated pool, hot tub, fitness center, game room, laundry facilities. Free parking but no RV parking.

All but 2 rental units are non-smoking ($100 fine for evidence of smoking in unit); no pets allowed.

Check in time: After 3:00 PM              Check Out Time: By 10:00 AM

Room Rates:
One-bedroom suite (sleeps 4) Rate (1-4 people) $98/day plus 7% tax.
Two-bedroom suite (sleeps 6) Rate (1-4 people) $125/day; each add'l person $10; plus 7% tax.

Above room rates are effective prior to and/or after the reunion for up to an additional 5 days.

Shipmates must make their own reservations. Call or reserve online – be sure to ask for the
"USS Caperton Reunion" room rate.

Reserve before August 11, 2008 – the earlier, the better. Cancellation fees or forfeit of deposit may apply. Call hotel for details.

Information on Transportation to Wells, Maine:

Wells is located about 65 miles north of Boston, 35 miles south of Portland, and 20 miles north of Portsmouth on I-95 or US RT 1.

All major airlines fly into Logan airport in Boston. Three options to get from Logan to Wells:

Option 1: Rent a car and drive up I-95 to Wells.

Option 2: Take Mermaid Transportation (shared van) from Logan Airport to Wells park-n-ride (Amtrak station). $55 per person each way. Make reservations as soon as possible, but a couple weeks in advance is ok; they need 24 hours if cancellation is necessary.  The last trip out of Logan is at 8:30 pm. Call toll free 800-696-2463 for info and reservations.

Option 3: Take Amtrak “Downeaster” from Boston’s North Station in Boston to Wells (BON to WEM). The "Downeaster" leaves Boston at 9:05 and 11:05 am, and at 5, 6:20, and 11:20 pm (no middle-of-the-day service). Trip is about 1 hour 45 minutes, and $19 before 15% senior discount. Contact Amtrak for info & reservations at 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) or www.amtrak.com.

            Two methods to get from Logan to the Amtrak North Station:

• Take a taxi (approx. $20) (easiest with luggage)
• or take airport shuttle to subway, subway to Amtrak BON station. Check www.mbta.com or call 800-392-6100 for schedules and fares.

All major airlines fly into Portland Jetport, ME. To get from Portland Jetport to Wells:

Option 1: Rent a car and drive south on I-95 to Wells.

Option 2: Take Amtrak “Downeaster” from Portland (POR) to Wells (WEM) (39 minutes, $11 before senior discount). Contact Amtrak for info & reservations at 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) or www.amtrak.com. Easiest to take a taxi from Portland Jeptport to Amtrak station.

From Wells Amtrak station to reunion hotel, Village by the Sea (approx. 1 mile):

The Caperton Reunion hosts, Neil & Jan Tracy, have graciously offered to pick up Gatling attendees from the Wells Amtrak train station (saving you the $20 taxi fee). When you send your Registration and Tour form to Bob Smithson, be sure to indicate if you’re coming by train or Mermaid Transportation, and your expected time of arrival in Wells. Provide your telephone number(s) and e-mail address so that Neil & Jan can confirm your times before that date.
