25th Reunion
September 12 – 15, 2010

This is a joint DESRON 30 reunion with the
USS Cotten (DD-669) & USS Daly (DD-519)

The reunion site is the Holiday Inn El Tropicano Riverwalk hotel. This smoke-free hotel offers a reunion rate of $99 per day plus tax, good for 2 days before and 2 days after the reunion. Parking is $7 per day.

Make your reservation no later than August 10, 2010 by calling the hotel (toll free) at 1-866-293-1842 and ask for the DESRON 30 rate.

12:00 PM El Tropicano Riverwalk Hospitality Room opens at noon for Registration and Early Birds.

Monday, September 13, 2010

 

Hospitality Room opens for later arrivals.
10:00 AM Tour #1 Bus tour to SAS (San Antonio Shoes) factory and historical San Jose Mission.
Lunch on your own.
6:00 PM Tour #2 Evening barbeque, dance and western show at the local German Society Beer Garden, which is a private club attached to an authentic 1880’s German beer hall and is comfortable and charming under a stand of tall majestic trees. Playing for listening and dancing pleasure will be the Country Swing Band and a show with a Will Rogers-style trick roper who also shows his skills with a Bull whip and a six gun.

8:30 AM Tour #3 Bus departs for all day trip to Fredericksburg (60 miles) to visit the National Museum of the Pacific War including the Admiral Chester Nimitz Museum. Nimitz was born and raised in Fredericksburg where his grandfather operated the Nimitz Hotel on the frontier for settlers moving west and is now the Nimitz Museum dedicated to the life of the Admiral and his memorabilia. The remainder of the complex covers nearly a whole city block and has completed a $12 million expansion which doubled the size of the exhibit floor featuring the history of the Pacific War. Memorial service for our departed will be held at the Museum.
Return to the hotel in late afternoon with evening dinner on your own. Select from the numerous restaurants along the river.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

9:00 AM Business meeting. Joint meeting - all ships.
Lunch on your own.
Afternoon free to shop or sightsee on the river or elsewhere.
6:00 PM Cash bar before evening dinner.
7:00 PM Evening dinner-dance in the hotel with a local band playing all our favorite Big Band music from the 30's, 40's and 50's so don't forget your dancing shoes.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

12:00 PM Checkout by Noon. This concludes the reunion. You may extend your stay on your own as you wish for an additional two nights at the same reunion rate.

Future Site Chairmen think about your area for the possible 26th Reunion location. Explore your area and check with your local Visitors & Convention Bureau folks. Bring the information to the business meeting for the association members to vote on.
