COMMISSSIONING
of the
USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG-108)

We have received word that the date has been set for the Commissioning of the USS Wayne E. Meyer. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Penn’s Landing, PA. We hope to have a sizeable number of Admiral Meyer’s Goodrich shipmates turn out to honor him on this momentous occasion. There are no other details available at this time about the ceremony, but you can be sure it will be a grand event. If you would like to attend, you will need to send your name, address and the names of those who will be attending with you to our newly-elected Yeoman, Bill Leonard. It is preferable to do this by email if you can. Be sure to put in the subject box of your email USS Goodrich or Meyer Commissioning. In case it winds up in Bill’s spam folder , he’ll know it’s a legitimate email. Bill’s email address is: ngmleonard@cox.net. Those who do not have email should send their info by regular US Mail. Bill’s home address is: 1808 NE 6th Street, Ocala, FL. 34470. The commissioning is less than 5 months away, so please send your information as soon as possible. When we receive info from the Navy about requesting an invitation, we will mail our list of names to them. You can then expect to receive an invitation by mail which will require you to RSVP the invitation. You must RSVP or you will not get tickets. A few weeks before the Commissioning you will receive your admission tickets in the mail. You will be required to show those tickets and a valid State or Government-issued photo ID in order to be admitted to the ceremony. When you send your info to Bill, please indicate if you will require room accommodations and, if so, the number of nights you plan to stay. At this time we have no commitments from any hotel in the area regarding a group rate for the Association. Should that change, we will let you know. There are no other events planned by the Goodrich Association to coincide with the Commissioning. It will, however, give you a sneak preview of what our 2011 reunion in Philadelphia will be like. This is a very great honor for one of our “own”, and it promises to be a wonderful event. I hope to see you all there.
Dick Beyers, Chairman
USS Goodrich (DD/DDR-831) Association
