Highlights
Out reunion hotel was conveniently located about halfway between New Orleans Airport and the Downtown. Our first event was Thursday Morning’s bus ride to New Orlean’s incredible WWII Museum where we enjoyed a box lunch. It was followed by an informative bus tour of the city. Friday morning we traveled by bus for a walking visit and lunch at the historic Houmas House Plantation on the Mississippi River. That evening we held our Shipmate’s banquet. Our featured speaker was Ron Williams, the executive at the USS Orleck Naval Museum in Lake Charles, LA. His presentation outlined the difficulties in turning a retired ship into a first class naval museum. Of course, It is all about money.
Our general meeting with 26 shipmates in attendance was held on Saturday morning with Portland, OR, designated a 2015’s reunion site. That evening we enjoyed a spectacular dinner and show at the WWII museum.
