Eleven shipmates attended their first DL reunion. A hospitality room was available throughout the reunion. There was a Welcome Reception, buffet dinner, auction, raffles, three tours and a closing banquet. A Memorial Service to missing shipmates was held at the American Undersea Warfare Center in Seawolf Park, with shipmates seated between WWII submarine USS Cavalla SS/SSK/AGSS-244 and destroyer escort USS Stewart DE-238. A bio-degradable Memorial Wreath (made by two of our reunion ladies) was laid upon the waters of Galveston Bay. A 90 minute Power Point presentation was made in the Hospitality Room by Capt. John Rodgaard, USN (Ret.) on the naval career of “Captain Charles Stewart, His Legacy to the Navy and the Nation” which covered the history of the U.S. Navy from 1775 until 1860. DE-238 is named after Captain Stewart. 2013 reunion will be held in Warwick, Rhode Island.
