Highlights
We toured Freedom park with the USS Hazard (mine sweeper) and USS Marlin (submarine), also various military artifacts. A river cruise on the Missouri river aboard the River City Star. A guided tour of historic parts of Omaha and the Old Market area. We also toured Offutt Air Force Base, Boy’s town, and Sac Aero Space Museum. Our banquet was held Saturday evening with presentation of the colors by the honor guard from NROTC group from Papillion La vista South high school led by Lt. Colonel Carl Lowandski, the only naval ROTC group in Nebraska. A special award was presented to James D. Collett Jr., the son of the ships first captain and nephew of John A. Collett who the ship was named after. This award, a certificate naming him an Admiral in the Nebraska navy. The award was presented by the Lt .Governor of Nebraska, the honorable Mike Foley.
